American Academy of Periodontology

The American Academy of Periodontology (AAP) is an 8,000-member association of dental professionals specializing in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of diseases affecting the gums and supporting structures of the teeth and in the placement and maintenance of dental implants. American Board of Orthodontics

The primary purpose of The American Board of Orthodontics is to elevate the level of orthodontic care for the public by encouraging excellence in clinical practice and specialty education. In its mission statement, the Board clearly defines four objectives: 1) to evaluate the knowledge and clinical skills of graduates of accredited orthodontic programs by conducting exams and conferring time-limited certificates; 2) to re-evaluate clinical knowledge and skills through administration of recertification exams throughout a Diplomate's career; 3) to support the development of quality graduate, postgraduate and continuing education programs in orthodontics; and 4) to promote and encourage certification expertise throughout the world.

American Board of Periodontology

The American Board of Periodontology was organized by the American Academy of Periodontology in 1939 to elevate the standards and advance the science and art of periodontology by encouraging its study and advancing its practice.

American College of Prosthodontics

Founded in 1970, the American College of Prosthodontists is an educational and scientific association created to represent the needs and interests of prosthodontists within organized dentistry, and to the public, by providing a means for stimulating awareness and interest in the field of prosthodontics. National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research

The mission of the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research (NIDCR) is to improve oral, dental and craniofacial health through research, research training, and the dissemination of health information.

Office of the American Board of Oral & Maxillofacial Pathology

The objectives of the Board shall be:

1. To encourage the study of oral and maxillofacial pathology.
2. To protect the public interest by maintaining the standards and advancing the practice of the specialty of oral and maxillofacial pathology.
3. To determine the competence of those wishing to practice the specialty of oral and maxillofacial pathology through evaluation of their credentials and the examination of eligible candidates.
4. To issue certificates to those who successfully complete the certifying examination administered by the ABOMP.
5. To serve the public, the dental and medical professions, hospitals, and dental and medical schools, by maintaining a list of diplomates of the ABOMP. A list of registered diplomates shall be prepared annually by the Secretary-Treasurer and submitted to the Council on Dental Education of the American Dental Association.
6. To establish criteria for certification maintenance and conduct an on-going recertification program.
