
M. Akram Khan, M.D., FACC, FSCAI is the Medical Director of
North Dallas Research Associates and has extensive cardiovascular
research experience spanning over the last fifteen years.
North Dallas Research Associates has been conducting clinical
research trials in the McKinney, TX area for the past five years.
Due to McKinney being the second largest growing city in the nation
we have access to a stable and diverse patient population that is
available to participate in clinical research trials.

primary practice, Cardiac Center of Texas, which offers
comprehensive treatment and testing in Diagnostic and

M. Akram Khan, MD, FACC, FSCAI, has been
practicing cardiovascular medicine in McKinney, TX, since 1997. He
completed his cardiac fellowship at Baylor Medical Center of
Dallas. He was Chief of Cardiology at Medical Center of McKinney in
2005, and has been several times since 1999. He has also been Chief
of Medicine at Presbyterian Hospital of Allen and has been since
2003. He is director of the peripheral vascular disease program at
Medical Center of Plano. He is and has been a member of the medical
executive committee for various hospitals. Dr Khan is on staff at
Medical Center of Plano, Medical Center of McKinney, Centennial
Medical Center in Frisco, Presbyterian Hospital of Allen, Baylor
Regional Medical Center at Plano and Texas Heart Hospital of the
Southwest.
Dr. Khan is also involved in research and is the Director of
North Dallas Research Associates. He is the Course Director for the
annual North Texas Cardovascular Conference. Dr. Khan is a member
of the following organizations: Texas Medical Association, American
Heart Association, International Society of Endovascular
Specialists, Association of Clinical Research Professionals and a
member of the Texas Medical Board Expert Physician Panel. He is a
Fellow of the American College of Cardiology and the Society for
Cardiac Angiography and Interventions.
Mohammad Zaim Nawaz, MD is the Co-Director for
North Dallas Research Associates. Dr Nawaz has
received the majority of his training in Texas. He graduated
from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center after
completing is Internal Medicine residency training. His
sub-specialty training in invasive cardiology was from Texas
A&M University. Dr. Nawaz has also completed advance fellowship
training in the field of Heart Failure and Transplant Cardiology
from one of the premiere cardiac transplant institutions in the
Midwest, the University of Wisconsin. He will be one of the
few UNOS (United Network of Organ Sharing) certified transplant
physicians in North Texas. His training not only adds another
segment to our invasive cardiology team, but also adds a new
dimension to our practice utilizing the most advanced modalities to
care for chronic and critically ill patients with congestive
heart failure. We are establishing a state of the art Heart Failure
Clinic on our premises offering the latest care for this group o
patients and also providing inpatient heart failure consultations.
Dr. Nawaz has been widely published in the premiere cardiology
journals, presenting in national cardiology meetings and has
received the National Research Award (NRSA), an NIH
sponsored training grant in Translational Cardiovascular
Research.
Brenda Joslin, CCRC is the Clinical Site
Director for North Dallas Research Associates. Ms. Joslin has been
in the medical field for the last seventeen years with experience
in Cardiology, Asthma, Allergy and Immunoglogy and Pediatrics. She
has participated in clinical research for the last seven years. She
assists the Medical Director with coordinating and managing
administrative and clinical aspects of investigational drug, device
and other research trials. In addition, she handles budget/contract
negotiation, regulatory processing, patient recruitment and
retention programs, and quality assurance. Ms. Joslin has
experience managing Phase II through Phase IV clincal trials,
acting as unblinded pharmacist in Phase II and Phase III clinical
trials and is thoroughly educated in federal regulations and
institutional policies. Ms Joslin has been a member and is
certified through the Association for Clinical Research
Professionals since 2003.
The majority of our research subjects come from the extensive
patient database of approximately 10,000. Due to the increasing
population of the McKinney, TX, area we have access to a large
potential pool of research subjects. We strive to manage and
maintain an active recruitment and retention program.
At North Dallas Research Associates we use Study Manager
software to track our patient population and provide overall study
management. Our site is able to use centralized IRB's and Labs
for research trials. Additionally, we have experience with local
IRBs to assist in outpatient trials.
