For over 50 years Internal Medicine Associates of Anderson, P.A. (IMA) has been at the forefront of providing quality patient care. By combining enhanced diagnostic and medical care with a patient-centric emphasis that focuses on preventative education and health promotion we enjoy a reputation as a recognized leader in offering comprehensive health care within the greater Anderson, SC community. Recognizing the benefits of clinical trial participation, our physician investigators began conducting clinical trials in 2008 in order to provide our patients with access to newest treatment options available. By combining an established internal medicine practice with cutting-edge research IMA remains committed to continuing its role in providing comprehensive health care.

IMA Research is located in Anderson, South Carolina on the AnMed Health North Campus. Although we are a private research center we have access to the hospital's outpatient, diagnostic and emergency facilities if needed.
Our center is located inside the Internal Medicine Associates of Anderson suite which is on the third floor of the Ogelsby Center C building of the AnMed Health North Campus. Our center includes a private reception area and waiting room, 8 exam rooms, private research office space, laboratory room with centrifuges and -20c freezer, locked storage facility and a reserved monitor area.
Our center is conveniently located at the corner of Highway 81 and East Reed Road. We are minutes from I-85 providing easy access to Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport (GSP). Our location has plenty of free parking available and is also on both the Electric City Transit and Clemson Area Transit bus lines.
C. Wilson Sofley, Jr., MD - Principal Investigator
Dr. Sofley has been in private practice as an Internal Medicine physician with Internal Medicine Associates of Anderson since 1993. Prior to that he served as Chief of Internal Medicine and practiced as a Staff Internist at Winn Army Community Hospital in Fort Stewart, GA. Dr. Sofley received his B.S. from Davidson College and his M.D. from the University of North Carolina School of Medicine. He trained in Internal Medicine at the University of South Carolina. He is Board certified in Internal Medicine and is NCQA certified in diabetes patient management. Dr. Sofley has been involved in clinical research since 1983 and previously served as a Principal Investigator with a private research network based in Greenville, SC.
Joseph A. Farmer, III, MD - Sub-Investigator
Dr. Farmer has been in private practice as an Internal Medicine physician with Internal Medicine Associates of Anderson since 1991. Dr. Farmer received his B.S. from Presbyterian College and his M.D. from the Medical University of South Carolina. He trained in Internal Medicine at the Medical University of South Carolina. He is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians and is Board certified in Internal Medicine. He has been involved in clinical research since 2005.
Michael R. Kunke MD - Sub-Investigator
Dr. Kunkel has been in private practice as an Internal Medicine physician with Internal Medicine Associates of Anderson since 1998. Prior to that he worked as a Staff Internist at Womack Army Medical Center in Fort Bragg, NC. Dr. Kunkel received his B.A. from the University of Virginia and his M.D. from the Medical College of Virginia at Virginia Commonwealth University. He trained in Internal Medicine at Fitzsimons Army Medical Center. He is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians, Board certified in Internal Medicine, a member of Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society and a member of the American Medical Associates. He has been involved in clinical research since 2009.
Sarah Long, APRN - Sub-Investigator
Mrs. Long has been in practice as a Family Nurse Practitioner at Internal Medicine Associates of Anderson since 1998. Additionally, she works with the Congestive Heart Failure Program at Anderson Area Medical Center. Mrs. Long received her B.S. from East Tennessee State University and her M.S. from Clemson University. She has been involved in clinical research since 2009.
Kevin J. Mizell, MSM, BA
Mr. Mizell is the Clinical Research Manager and primary Clinical Research Coordinator for the practice. He is a graduate of Clemson University and Southern Wesleyan University. He began his research career in 2001 at the Medical University of South Carolina and his research experience includes managing NIH and NIMH mental health studies as well as working with Alzheimer's trials, anxiety disorder trials, endocrine disorder trials, cardiovascular trials and HIV/AIDS research.
