Trial Information

CALGB 90203: A Randomized Phase III Study of Neo-Adjuvant Docetaxel and Androgen Deprivation Prior to Radical Prostatectomy Versus Immediate Radical Prostatectomy in Patients with High-Risk, Clinically Localized Prostate Cancer

You are being asked to participate in this study because you have prostate cancer and are at risk of cancer recurrence (return of disease) after you have surgery to remove your prostate. You are at increased risk for recurrence because of your PSA (prostate specific antigen) blood test, prostate biopsy Gleason score (the way your cancer looks under a microscope), and/or your clinical stage (amount and location of the cancer in your body). The purpose of this study is to compare chemotherapy and hormone therapy followed by surgery to remove the prostate versus surgery alone in terms of how many subjects do not have return of disease in three years and of side effects and other problems experienced. The study will also study whether diet and/or lifestyle are good predictors of how well subjects with this disease will do. Your treatment on this study is expected to last 18 to 24 weeks followed by surgery. After your surgery is over, your medical condition will continue to be followed every year for 15 years.
