Summary: Hypertension Study CSPP100A2411
Novartis is conducting this clinical research trial to find out if the drug aliskiren hydrochlorothiazide (TekturnaŽ HCT) compared to hydrochlorothiazide (HCTZ) alone is safe and will effectively lower blood pressure. Patients must be 55 years or older and have stage 2 systolic high blood pressure (systolic blood pressure greater than or equal to 160 mm Hg or less than 200 mm Hg). Both the combination of aliskiren hydrochlorothiazide and hydrochlorothiazide alone are approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and are available for sale in the U.S.
Participants will be required to visit the study center a maximum of 9 times over a duration of 12 weeks. Each visit will take about 1-2 hours.
