We conduct Phase II,III, IV Clinical Trials that are aimed at finding new and better treatments for various medical conditions and diseases. Our research site includes several speciality Physicians, a dedicated clinical trial APRN and two Certified Study Coordinators with advanced skills and experience in research. Subject safety is a top priority at ARC of Arkansas. Dr. Steven Simpson provides oversight for our studies as our Medical Director.

Facility Description

Applied Research Center of Arkansas is located in the heart of Little Rock. We are just minutes away from all major metropolitan hospitals, Arkansas Children’s Hospital, and the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. ARC of Arkansas is accessible to public transportation, local eateries, and shopping plazas in the Pleasant Valley and Green Mountain communities. Our recently renovated facility now has 3,000 sq feet of clinical and office space. This includes 5 exam rooms and a procedure room, on-site laboratory, research offices, student workstations, and a modern conference room.

Site Leadership

Donna Wright, APRN
CEO & President

Donna R. Wright completed her Bachelor of Nursing at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in May of 1988, and received her certification in Family Practices license as an Advance Nurse Practitioner (APRN) in 1997. Donna is currently certified with the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners. Donna is the President and CEO of Applied Research Center of Arkansas and has participated in several clinical research trials as a Sub-I since 2001.

Steve Simpson, MD
Medical Director

Dr. Steve Simpson received his Medical Doctorate degree from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in 1994. He has been employed as a Family Practice Physician in the Little Rock area since 1997. Dr. Simpson has been the Medical Director for Applied Research Center of Arkansas since August 2012 and has been the PI/Sub-I on multiple clinical research trials.

Louis D. Velez, MD
Investigator

Dr. Louis D. Velez received his Medical Doctorate degree from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in 1976 and completed his gastroenterology fellowship in 1985. He has served as a Gastroenterologist in the Little Rock are for over 30 years and has had previous research experience with Arkansas Research from 2006-2010. Dr. Velez has been conducting clinical research trials as a PI/Sub-I with Applied Research Center of Arkansas since 2012.

Rhonda Rowton, CCRP
Director of Clinical Operations

Rhonda Rowton is a Certified Clinical Research Professional (CCRP) through SOCRA. She started in pharmaceutical research in 1997 working with her Mentor, Jennings Osborne, at Arkansas Research conducting Phase I clinical trials. She has been involved in all aspects of clinical operations for Phase II-IV trials since 2010. She has study experience in Healthy male/female studies, Pediatrics, Pulmonary/Asthma, Allergic Rhinitis, Dermatology/Psoriasis, Hypertension, Hyperlipidemia, GI, Diabetic Type I and II studies, Osteo/Rheuatoid, and Pain Management trials. Rhonda serves as Director of Clinical Operations at Applied Research Center of Arkansas.

Letha McGarity, M.S., CCRC
Lead Study Coordinator

Letha McGarity is a Certified Clinical Research Coordinator (CCRC) through ACRP. She received her Master of Science degree in Interdisciplinary Biomedical Sciences in 2011 from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. Letha has been conducting research in multiple pre-clinical and clinical settings since 2004. She has had opportunities working with world renowned MDs and PhDs in such research areas as hematology/oncology, gastroenterology, pediatrics, substance abuse and drug addiction. Letha has advanced skills and expertise coordinating and managing Phase I through IV clinical trials in both Industry and Academia settings. Letha serves as a Study Coordinator at Applied Research Center of Arkansas.
