Center Overview
HRI’s recently renovated 30-bed Early Phase Unit (EPU) in Berlin, NJ has been outfitted with a secure inpatient unit that is purpose built with flex space to accommodate the rigorous assessment needs required during today’s more complex early phase trials. The unit is also equipped with patient population separation wards offering the accommodations needed to support multiple patient populations at once, along with trials that require pediatric/elderly patients and their caretakers. While the inpatient unit currently consists of 30 beds, the unit was designed with ample space to house approximately 40-50 beds, should additional beds be needed. HRI’s EPU and well-trained staff has strong experience conducting the full range of Phase I studies and also provides the controlled environment needed for translational studies, QTc, ERP/QEEG, and pain models. Amenities include but are not limited to: Pharmacy with Laminar Flow Hood for Compounding, Schedule 1-4 Drug Storage Capabilities, CLIA Waved Processing Laboratory, Private Dosing Rooms with Observation and Monitoring area, PK room, Telemetry unit and three Processing Labs, Secure Smoking Area, Computer Area, Recreation Room, Procedure Room with Recovery Area.
Additionally, HRI’s campus has an Outpatient CNS and Outpatient General Medicine, Pain and Dependence Unit and are equipped to facilitate inpatient and outpatient studies through our multi-specialty faculty practices and patient facilities. Our robust, proven database of 70,000+ allows HRI to successfully recruit and enroll both common and special populations at an industry leading pace.
HRI’s affiliate, Advocare of Berlin, includes doctors that serve southern New Jersey and the Philadelphia Metropolitan Area via clinical offices which provide care for pediatric through geriatric patients. Through this proven model, HRI offers an impressive range of therapeutic expertise and patient access with primary care in Family Medicine and specialists in Addiction, Cardiology, Endocrinology, Geriatrics, Geriatric Psychiatry, Migraines, Neurology, Orthopedics, Pain Management, Pediatrics, Pulmonology, Psychiatry, Adolescent Psychiatry and Sports.
HRI’s campus is conveniently located just 20 minutes from Philadelphia city center and 25 minutes from the Philadelphia airport.

The major strengths of the HRI include experienced, client-committed project team, fast subject recruitment with a high retention rate of satisfied participants, expedited regulatory approval parallel with budget and contracts completed in under two weeks. The average years of clinical trial experience for each member of our team is over 10 years. All HRI employees are extensively trained in GCP and research, as well as patient care, in order to elevate site performance and enhance the patient's experience. Our SOP’s are thorough and specific to the clinical research industry. HRI provides the Sponsor/CRO with a single point of contact to streamline the conduct of clinical trials from inception to close-out, including, investigator support for IRB and regulatory compliance, contracts and budgets and coordinator support.
