Center Overview

HRI’s recently renovated 30-bed Early Phase Unit (EPU) in Berlin, NJ has been outfitted with a secure inpatient unit that is purpose built with flex space to accommodate the rigorous assessment needs required during today’s more complex early phase trials. The unit is also equipped with patient population separation wards offering the accommodations needed to support multiple patient populations at once, along with trials that require pediatric/elderly patients and their caretakers. While the inpatient unit currently consists of 30 beds, the unit was designed with ample space to house approximately 40-50 beds, should additional beds be needed. HRI’s EPU and well-trained staff has strong experience conducting the full range of Phase I studies and also provides the controlled environment needed for translational studies, QTc, ERP/QEEG, and pain models. Amenities include but are not limited to: Pharmacy with Laminar Flow Hood for Compounding, Schedule 1-4 Drug Storage Capabilities, CLIA Waved Processing Laboratory, Private Dosing Rooms with Observation and Monitoring area, PK room, Telemetry unit and three Processing Labs, Secure Smoking Area, Computer Area, Recreation Room, Procedure Room with Recovery Area.

Additionally, HRI’s campus has an Outpatient CNS and Outpatient General Medicine, Pain and Dependence Unit and are equipped to facilitate inpatient and outpatient studies through our multi-specialty faculty practices and patient facilities.
