Center Overview
Mountain States Tumor Institute (MSTI), a subsidiary of St. Lukes Regional
Medical Center (SLRMC), is a full-service cancer center devoted to the
screening, detection, and multidisciplinary treatment of adult and pediatric
cancer, as well as to the support and education of cancer patients' families,
and to clinical cancer research.
MSTI was founded in 1970, and has continually grown to include satellites in several area communities, serving a population of about 400,000. MSTI
also sponsors the Mountain States Tumor and Medical Research Institute, which oversees and funds basic science research in a number of medical fields
such as cardiology, aging, and pharmacotherapy.

Clinical Research Experience
MSTI is an affiliate member of SWOG, RTOG and a member of COG, and participates in numerous pharmaceutical company trials. We have also been active contributors to the national SELECT, PLCO and NLST projects. Our site was active in the early studies on Zofran(R), Herceptin (R) and Rituxan(R). We have a separate department devoted entirely to clinical trial case management, with 6 RN's and 4 CRA's. We have a FACT-accredited ABMT program, and participate in the IBMTR/ABMTR and NMDP.

Facility Description
MSTI and SLRMC offer almost all types of in- and outpatient cancer diagnosis and treatment, including digital mammography, PET scanning, high-dose radiation, IMRT and brachytherapy, and autologous bone marrow transplantation.
Our Boise location is easily reached by public transportation, and is close to the freeway and to the airport. We also have full service facilities located at satellite sites in Meridian, Nampa, Fruitland & Twin Falls, for the convenience of patients in those communities.

Investigator Experience
Staff includes eleven board-certified Medical Oncologists, and five board certified Radiation Oncologists, all with experience in cancer clinical trials. Principal investigators for adult studies are Thomas M. Beck, MD (25 years) and Theodore Walters, MD (11 years). PI for pediatric trials is J. Martin Johnston, MD (10 years).
