Facility Description
The coordinating center and study practice are both located in the University of Miami Medical School/Jackson Memorial Hospital campus. The campus is conveniently located 10 minutes from the airport and just minutes from downtown Miami and area hotels. The study center is readily accessible to patients from the surrounding communities and from the greater Miami-Dade area. Most of our research subjects are recruited from our practice where we have encountered a positive attitude towards research. Our study center staff is experienced in research and provides the PI and research staff with invaluable clinical support.
Our research facility features a dedicated exam room, laboratory with centrifuge, fridge, minus 15F freezer, secure drug cabinets, secure study material cabinets, and storage area for lab supplies. There is ample monitoring space with photocopier, phone, fax, wireless internet access, electronic CFR-compatible LAN, and visitor access to VPN. Monitors are welcome to use our kitchen area which features a coffee machine, fridge and microwave.

Staff Expertise
At the Center for Clinical Research there are two Senior Research Associates who take on the role of study coordinator for the duration of a clinical trial. Combined, the SRAs have over seven years experience in clinical research. The SRAs work closely with the PI to ensure the highest in subject safety and data and to ensure that study subjects have a positive research experience. Both SRAs are trained in Human Subjects Protection, research ethics and CFR/ICH GCP guidelines and receive ongoing training year-round.
SRAs are in close communication with study subjects throughout the trial to ensure subject safety and increase compliance with study visits. Both SRAs report directly to the Family Medicine Research Director.
We are knowledgeable and competitive in regulatory document preparation, budget negotiation, IRB document submission, subject recruitment and follow-up, and in our attention to Sponsor and CRO requests.

Patient Demographics
Our patient population reflects the ethnic and cultural diversity of South Florida, comprised of Non-Hispanic White, African American, Hispanic, Haitian, Caribbean, and Asian patients. Female patients represent 62% of the nearly 5,000 patients presenting to our study center every year.
We maintain a close working relationship with physicians from the medical campus and the surrounding area health centers in order to obtain additional referrals for our clinical trials, greatly increasing our recruitment potential. Two of our nearby satellite practices see a combined total of almost 30,000 patients every year. Fifty percent of their patients are between the ages of 18 and 55 years, 62% of their patients are Hispanic.
