PEDS Research is an independent dedicated research facility established in 1997 by Naomi D. Neufeld, MD, F.A.C.E Board –certified pediatric endocrinologist, and former Director of Pediatric Endocrinology at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center. Patients with a variety of metabolic and endocrine disorders who have been followed in this well-established practice have been successfully enrolled in a large number of clinical trials. Our primary objectives are to provide optimal patient care and service, maximizing our clients’ expectation by meeting enrollment goals and providing error-free study reports. We are dedicated to developing and maintaining long-term relationships with our clients and establishing PEDS Research as the premier clinical research center for pediatric and young adult studies.

Dr. Neufeld has been involved in Clinical Research for over 25 years. For the past 8 years, this Center has conducted more than 30 Phase III and Phase IV Clinical Trials in the following areas:

We specialize in trials mandated under The Best Pharmaceuticals for Children Act (BPCA). that involve the transition of pharmaceutical agents and devices from the adult to the pediatric population,. PEDS Research is an outpatient facility. We have an on-site pharmacy, secure drug storage, comfortable work area for CRA, conference room, phlebotomy area, facility for overnight monitoring (PK studies) and secured storage for research material.

Naomi D. Neufeld MD, FACE Medical Director has over 25 years of clinical research experience in childhood obesity, diabetes and endocrine disorders in both the academic and private practice settings. Dr. Neufeld is a Board-certified Pediatrician and Pediatric Endocrinologist, and has been widely published in peer-reviewed journals including the Journal for Clinical Investigation, the American Journal of Physiology, The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism, Pediatric Research, and Diabetes Care. She is the Founder of KidShape, a weight management program for children which has treated over 12,000 children since 1986. She is an internationally recognized expert on childhood obesity and the author of the book KidShape: A Practical prescription for raising healthy fit children., published by Rutledge Hill Press in 2004. She received a Bachelors and Masters in Medical Sciences from Brown University and her MD Degree from Tufts University. She completed her pediatric training at Brown, and her fellowship in pediatric endocrinology at UCLA Center for Health Sciences. She was the Director of Pediatric Endocrinology at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center until 1995, and is a Clinical Professor of Pediatrics at the UCLA School of Medicine. She has been involved in more than 60 different trials. She is currently a principal Investigator on 12 different trials and has had the distinction in being a top-enroller for the past 3 trials.

We have a very large patient population derived from a referral base of over 100 physicians and health plans. We currently operate the only major weight treatment program for children in Southern California. The annual enrollment in KidShape is nearly 2000 patients and their parents for a total of 4000 potential subjects per year. In the past, up to 40% of children enrolled in KidShape had evidence of insulin resistance syndrome, with the features of hypertension, dyslipidemia, Type 2 diabetes and PCO in this pediatric population. Additionally, Dr. Neufeld serves as a Consulting Pediatric endocrinologist in Los Angeles and has an established long-term clinical practice of over 5000 families. The age range of our population is from birth up to 25 years . The Ethnic composition of this population is 65% Latino, 20% African-American, 10% White and 5% Asian.

Additionally, we have an established population of young adults, ages 18-25 years, who have a variety of disorders including dysplipidemia, hypertension, Diabetes mellitus (Types 1 and 2) , growth hormone deficiency and menstrual dysfunction.

We are able to utilize the sponsor's Central IRB. We are experienced with Remote Data Entry. Our site has been listed among the top 3 enrollers for the past several pediatric studies.
