Center Overview

An academic medical center, the Arizona Health Sciences Center (AHSC) is comprised of 5 colleges: Colleges of Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy and Public Health, and the School of Health Professions.

Established over 30 years ago, the College of Medicine is Arizona's only Medical School. Three missions at the University of Arizona College of Medicine, research, clinical care and teaching combine to deliver state-of-the-art health care. More than 100 of our physicians were identified among The Best Doctors in America in 2006.

The College provides excellent training programs and continuing medical education for residents, clinical fellows, practicing physicians and other health care professionals.

Research is a critical mission at AHSC. Faculty members are participating in scores of research projects and clinical trials. In 2004-05, researchers at AHSC were awarded a total of $122 million in grants from the National Institutes of Health, state and local agencies and private industry.

Members of the Department of Neurology are actively involved in research, both basic and applied. Many faculty receive outside extramural funding from agencies such as the National Institutes of Health, National Institutes of Neurological Disorders and Stroke, National Institute of Aging, and the pharmaceutical industry. In our clinical research office, the Principal Investigator's have active protocols in Alzheimer's disease, Epilepsy, and Movement disorders.

Other ongoing clinical trials involve diagnostic/treatment interventions for Stroke.
