Investigator Experience
Director and Principal Investigator Dr Roger Bullock has over 10 years clinical trials experience and is regularly consulted on the development of new trial protocols. He is also Consultant and Manager of the Old Age Psychiatry Department in the Avon and Western Wiltshire Mental Health Care NHS Trust. The research centre is on the same site as Dr Bullock’s NHS practice, allowing speedy identification of patients who may benefit from trial participation.
Dr. Bullock is well respected in his field and is often called upon to
speak to professional groups about his work. He is committed to
research, particularly in psychopharmacology, neuropsychology and the
use of both in all areas of care. He believes that clinical trials not
only benefit his current patients but will be of significant benefit to
further patients in the future. He also feels that trials improve the
service, introducing additional rigour to clinical practice.

Staff Expertise
Kingshill’s multi-disciplinary team includes doctors, psychiatrists, psychologists, research nurses, a GP researcher, a health policy research fellow, a clinical trials administrator, a business development officer and an information officer. In addition, through its close working relationship with the Department of Old Age Psychiatry, the Centre is able to draw on the expertise of occupational, speech and physio-therapists as well as social workers.
The staff, individually and collectively take pride in and are committed to producing data of the highest quality, understanding the need to scrupulously adhere to protocols whilst keeping the patient's best interests at heart.

Patient Demographics
Kingshill Research Centre has a population base of 30,000 elderly people. The area encompasses both rural and urban environments with a wide cultural diversity allowing the site to recruit to the most stringent trial requirements.
Recruitment is on a trial-by-trial basis and the site aims to match patients to trials for maximum benefit to both patient and sponsor. The needs of the patient, carer and study are respected, with the comfort of the patient and the success of the study as the prime objectives. In addition, the site has built a reputation for providing support to the carers enhancing patient retention and recruitment to further trials.
The relationship with the Avon and Western Wiltshire Mental Health Care NHS Trust ensures that any patients suitable for trials who come into contact with the team are referred onwards to the site. In addition, the site works closely with the local primary care teams, ensuring that the majority of those patients within the catchment area who may be suitable for particular trials are contacted.
Kingshill has a reputation for speedy recruitment of trial patients and of high retention levels. Due to a rigorous pre-screening programme, very few patients drop out after entry to a study.
