Center Overview

The Research and Education Institute (REDI) of Alta Bates Summit Medical Center exists to advance the practice of medicine through clinical trial research. As part of a large 1,000 bed urban medical center with campuses in Berkeley and Oakland, California, REDI works collaboratively with both physicians and research sponsors, to conduct community based research across multiple investigative sites.

With access to over 1,500 mult-specialty physicians on staff REDI is an ideal research site for any Sponsor or CRO. Our Research site recruits from the diverse communities we serve within the East Bay (San Francisco) totaling nearly 1.5 million residents in Alameda County alone.

Clinical Research Experience

REDI has research expertise in a wide variety of therapeutic areas including:

Anesthesiology/Pain Management, Cardiology/Vascular Diseases, Endocrinology, Gastroenterology, Hematology, Infectious Disease (HIV/AIDS), Urology, Neurology, Oncology, Neonatalogy, Pulmonary/Respiratory Diseases, Radiological Sciences, Rheumatology, Surgery/Orthopedic Surgery, and Women's Health.

REDI works with many Industry leaders in Pharmaceutical, Medical Device, and Biotechnology to conduct Phase II, III, and IV trials.

Facility Description

The Research and Education Institute is a department of Alta Bates Summit Medical Center. We are proud to offer advanced, comprehensive services to our patients, which include access to cutting edge research trials. Alta Bates Summit has a rich history of providing state of the art care with a compassionate touch to the communities we serve. Together, Alta Bates and Summit make up the East Bay's largest private, not-for-profit medical center with three campuses, two acute care hospitals, birthing services, and a full array of the most advanced specialty services.

Alta Bates Summit Medical Center has made community healthcare a priority. We are proud of our many areas of clinical excellence including cardiovascular, behavioral health, women and infants, orthopedics, rehabilitation, and oncology care.

Investigator Experience

Alta Bates Summit Medical Center has a medical staff of nearly 1,500 physicians. Our investigators are all practicing physicians of our medical staff, many of whom have achieved both local and national recognition for their clinical achievements. Our experienced clinical research investigators represent nearly all of our subspecialty services offered within the Medical Center.

Staff Expertise

The Research and Education Institute has a dedicated and committed staff with extensive experience in clinical trial management. Our research staff is comprised of nursing (RN) coordinators who have over 20 years of research experience, as well as experienced clinical research coordinators and other support staff. Our core competencies , include study coordination, data management, project management, business development, IRB/human subjects protection, and budgeting and contracts development.

The Research and Education Institute utilizes the Alta Bates Summit Institutional Review Board for human subjects protection.

REDI is currently implementing the use of the VELOS eResearch study management software as part of the Sutter Health Research initiative.
